LOW COST

The next energetic era

Designed to exploit the full potential of nuclear fuels, a Dual Fluid Reactor could prove to be the most efficient energy source ever developed. It’s mass-producible, compact reactor core will make up to a hundred times better use of nuclear fuel than today’s light-water reactors. This, together with massive design simplifications, has the potential to halve today’s electricity costs.

Dual Fluid offers the only nuclear design that is capable of using nuclear fuel in a way that leaves no significant amount of long-lived fission products, made possible by a novel pyrochemical recycling process combined with the reactor. Existing nuclear waste can be used as fuel. The residual materials will only need to be stored for about 300 years, compared with several 100,000 years today.

Serving heat markets

Complete decarbonization is possible

Operating at exceptionally high temperatures of 1000°C at low cost, a Dual Fluid Reactor can provide clean and stable heat for industrial processes such as steel or ammonia production. Clean hydrogen and synthetic fuels can be produced at a price significantly lower than today´s fossil-based alternatives. This frees not only the electricity sector, but all areas of life from emissions.

Approved by leading institutions worldwide

A preliminary safety analysis from Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI, Switzerland), and the Technical Universities of Munich and Dresden (Germany) has confirmed the favorable safety properties of Dual Fluid technology. Our partners at the National Nuclear Research Centre, Poland, have studied the reactor physics and thermal hydraulics. Together with the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization ANSTO, we are carrying out fuel development.
